Biography

William D. Hunt, a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, specializes in the fields of microelectronic acoustics and device physics. He received his B.S.E.E. from the University of Alabama in 1976, followed by an S.M.E.E. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980 and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1987. He founded the Microelectronic Acoustics Group at Georgia Tech, focusing on the development of ultrasonic devices for integrated microsystems and applications such as intravascular ultrasound and wireless chemical sensors. His notable contributions include the research and development of thin film piezoelectric materials and the application of microelectronic acoustics in chemical sensing and biological research. Hunt has been acknowledged as a Rhodes Scholar Finalist and received various awards, including the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator and the DuPont Young Faculty Award. He has also contributed to the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society as an editor and past member of the Administrative Committee.
