Biography

William Inboden began serving as the executive vice president and provost at the University of Texas at Austin on August 1, 2025. He holds the William Powers Jr. Chair with a joint faculty appointment in the Department of History and the School of Civic Leadership. As the university's chief academic officer, Dr. Inboden leads UT Austin's academic mission, ensuring excellence and continued innovation in research and teaching endeavors across the campus. His responsibilities encompass academic programs and initiatives for the university’s 19 colleges and schools, serving over 52,000 students and supporting more than 3,000 teaching and research faculty. Dr. Inboden has previously held various significant leadership roles, including director of the Alexander Hamilton School of Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida, and Peterson Senior Fellow with the Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at Johns Hopkins University. His career includes positions in the National Security Council at the White House, the Department of State, and the United States Senate. An established author, he has written numerous books and articles on diplomatic history, religion and foreign policy, and national security. He has been recognized with several awards for his research and teaching excellence.
