Biography

William Jacobson is a Clinical Professor and Director of the Securities Law Clinic at Cornell Law School. He graduated summa cum laude from Hamilton College with a B.A. in 1981 and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1984. Before joining the Cornell law faculty in 2007, Professor Jacobson maintained a successful civil litigation and arbitration practice in Providence, Rhode Island, focusing on investment, employment, and business disputes in the securities industry. He has argued cases in numerous federal and state courts, including the Fifth and Sixth Circuits and the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Professor Jacobson is nationally recognized as a leading practitioner in securities arbitration and has served as treasurer and member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors of the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, a professional organization dedicated to protecting public investors. He has been quoted in national media on issues related to investment fraud and investor protection and has trained new arbitrators for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Additionally, he is a co-author of the Securities Arbitration Desk Reference and has founded and published Legal Insurrection, a popular website examining politics and law.
