Biography

William Jones is a professor of physics at Princeton University. He earned his bachelor's degree in physics with a certificate in applied computational mathematics from Princeton University in 1998, graduating magna cum laude. He subsequently earned his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology and became a postdoctoral scholar. He worked as a scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena before joining Princeton in 2008. His research focuses on cosmology, particularly understanding the contents and evolution of the Universe. A significant part of his work involves observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the faint afterglow left by the Big Bang, as well as exploring the nature of dark matter through measurements of gravitational lensing in clusters of galaxies. He has contributed to experimental efforts studying the properties of the CMB, including the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), the Boomerang long-duration balloon experiment, and the BICEP experiment at the South Pole, as well as NASA/European Space Agency's Planck satellite.
