Bill Kristan received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He has served as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University and as an assistant research biologist at the University of California, Berkeley. Kristan has held a Guggenheim Fellowship and worked as a Fellow at the University of Bielefeld in Germany. His research focuses on how networks of nerve cells generate various behaviors and how these neuronal networks are formed during embryogenesis. Utilizing a combination of electrophysiological, imaging, anatomical, computational, and embryological techniques, his laboratory investigates circuits in the relatively simple nervous system of the medicinal leech and constructs computerized models to better understand these processes.
