Biography

William M. Mahoney, Jr. is an Associate Professor and the Director of Molecular Medicine Mechanisms Disease at UW Medicine. His research focuses on the fundamental mechanisms controlling cell differentiation, particularly in the context of vascular biology. His work emphasizes the characterization of specific molecular signatures that define vascular beds and the role of Regulator G-protein Signaling (RGS) proteins in smooth muscle cell physiology and development in response to disease. Mahoney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Trinity College and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland. He completed his postdoctoral training in Cardiovascular Pathology at the University of Washington.
