Biography

William J. Maloney is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Maloney has made significant contributions to the understanding of joint replacement surgery, particularly concerning the failure of surgical joint replacements. He has established a critical link between polyethylene wear debris and bony erosion, resulting in important changes to material design strategies in joint replacement surgery. His research has received recognition from the Hip Society on two occasions. He has also held the position of chair of the American Joint Replacement Registry Board of Directors and served on the boards of directors for the Knee Society, Hip Society, and the Western Orthopaedic Association. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he has been a visiting professor at numerous prestigious universities and institutions, both in the United States and Asia. Dr. Maloney completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University and is highly regarded in the field for his expertise and leadership.
