Biography

William J. Murphy has had a distinguished career in cancer immunology and melanoma immunotherapy, pursuing significant research at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Since moving to UC Davis School of Medicine in 2008, he has served as a Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Dermatology, as well as the interim chair of the department from 2012 to 2016. Murphy's research focuses on improving the efficacy and safety of cellular engraftment therapies, with an emphasis on reducing patient immunosuppression duration. His laboratory has received multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), studying stem cell engraftment and various aspects of cancer immunology. With over 250 publications in the field throughout his 30-year career, Murphy has been continuously funded by the NIH and is actively involved in multiple NIH study sections and committees.
