William Murphy is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He graduated with his MD from the University of Ottawa in 1973 and initially trained in Family Medicine at the University of Calgary. After four years in British Columbia, he returned to the University of British Columbia to complete additional training in Internal Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in Neurology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at the Cleveland Clinic in 1984 before returning to Calgary. Dr. Murphy has a strong clinical focus on epilepsy, sleep medicine, multiple sclerosis, and electromyography (EMG). He has served as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Clinical Neurophysiology for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and is a past president of the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists. Additionally, he currently chairs the Canadian Board of Registration for Electroencephalograph Technologists.
