Biography

William O'Brien Jr. is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Master of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is the founder and principal of WOJR: Organization Architecture. His honors include the 2012-2013 Rome Prize Fellowship in Architecture from the American Academy in Rome, and he has been recognized as a Fellow by organizations such as MacDowell, Civitella Ranieri, and the Aspen Institute. He received the 2011 Architectural League Prize for Young Architects and Designers. Prior to his role at MIT, he taught at the University of California, Berkeley as the Bernard Maybeck Fellow and was the LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellow at The Ohio State University. Before that, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in advanced theory seminars and design studios in graduate curriculum. He pursued graduate studies at Harvard Graduate School of Design and received the Department of Architecture Faculty Design Award.
