Biography

William Peveler is a Senior Lecturer and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow in the School of Chemistry at the University of Glasgow. He focuses on bio-nano-sensing technologies that engineer molecules and nanomaterials for advanced sensor applications in the food and drink industry as well as in biomedicine. His research includes synthesizing and studying responsive molecular fluorophores and plasmonic luminescent nanocrystals, as well as developing functional interfaces between materials chemistry and biology. One of his notable projects involves mimicking mammalian senses to create 'fingerprint' sensing technologies that can categorize complex mixtures, such as blood and whisky. Peveler received his MChem from the University of Oxford and later earned his PhD from UCL in chemistry. He has extensive postdoctoral experience in various prestigious institutions, including the University of British Columbia. Since joining Glasgow in 2018, he has worked independently, securing numerous research grants for innovative projects in sensor technologies and materials chemistry.
