Professor Dr. William Sellers

Biography

William Sellers is a computational zoologist at the University of Manchester. His research primarily focuses on the evolution and mechanics of locomotor systems, where he employs experimental biomechanics and computer modeling to explore how various organisms, including humans and dinosaurs, navigate their environments. With a strong background in human comparative functional anatomy and biomechanics, he utilizes numerical robotic techniques to investigate comparative anatomy and fossil behavior. His innovative approaches include using video-based 3D photogrammetry and multibody dynamic models to analyze animal mechanics. Additionally, he works on non-locomotor biomechanics and has interests in breathing mechanics and hand use. Sellers is also involved in multidimensional image processing to enable the visualization of multi-spectral images, which has applications in reading ancient manuscripts and examining fossilized soft tissues. He actively seeks collaborations for potential PhD projects related to animal locomotion and biomimetics in vertebrate paleontology.
