Dr. William Tapper

Biography

Professor William Tapper leads the Genomic Informatics group at the University of Southampton, focusing on identifying novel germline and somatic variants that influence disease risk and clinical outcomes. His research emphasizes the translation of genomic knowledge into improved diagnosis, risk prediction, and personalized treatment. The group employs a wide range of bioinformatic and statistical techniques to analyze large-scale genetic datasets, including those from next-generation sequencing, genome-wide association studies, and polygenic risk scores. They explore various areas, such as the long-term follow-up of breast cancer patients, the development of risk scores for conditions like pancreatic cancer, and the resistance mechanisms in pediatric rhabdomyosarcomas. Additionally, Professor Tapper teaches modules on Genomic Technologies and Basic Informatics, contributes to undergraduate medical education, and supervises postgraduate research students.
