Dr. William Tow

Biography

William Tow is a distinguished Professor at the Australian National University, specializing in International Relations within the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs. His academic journey has included significant positions such as Professor of International Relations at the University of Queensland and Griffith University, as well as Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California. He has served as a Visiting Fellow at Stanford University and as a Visiting Research Associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. Tow's contributions to the field include co-directing various ANU projects, notably the MacArthur Foundation's Asia Security Initiative. His editorial role for the Australian Journal of International Affairs spanned from 2001 to 2006. He has been actively engaged in policy discussions, evidenced by his service on the Foreign Affairs Council with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and his tenure on the National Board of Directors for the Australian Fulbright Commission. Tow has also been recognized with the Australian Award for University Teaching in the Social Sciences category in 2001. His research interests focus on alliance politics and security policy in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly regarding Australian security policies.
