Biography

William Wilcock is a Professor at the University of Washington, holding the Jerome M. Paros Endowed Chair. He is a marine geophysicist whose research focuses on using earthquake recordings and seismic imaging modeling techniques to study seafloor volcanoes and hydrothermal systems. He is actively involved in efforts to develop and deploy geodetic seismic instruments in the seafloor Cascadia subduction zone to better understand and mitigate the seismic hazards of the region. In addition to his work in geophysics, Wilcock studies baleen whales, utilizing opportunistic recordings of their subsonic calls captured by ocean bottom seismometers. His interdisciplinary approach combines aspects of marine geology, seismology, and biology, contributing to advancements in understanding both seismic activity and marine life interactions.
