Dr. William Wong

Biography

William W. L. Wong focuses his research on system-level policy modeling, infectious diseases modeling, and health services outcomes research, particularly related to hepatitis B and C. His methodology interests include advanced decision-analytic modeling techniques, such as discrete event simulation and agent-based models, as well as health technology assessment and cost-effectiveness analysis. He has contributed significantly to the field of pharmacoeconomics through diverse studies, including the economic evaluation of hemophilia prophylaxis interventions and the cost-effectiveness of universal hepatitis B vaccination programs. Dr. Wong has a robust academic background, with a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medical Decision Making and Health Economics from the University of Toronto, and he obtained his PhD and MMath in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. Dr. Wong has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Excellence in Science Research Award from the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo and the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science. He has also served on various committees, providing expertise in health economics modeling to organizations such as the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee and the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health. Over the years, Dr. Wong has taught courses that involve health informatics and applied health economics, shaping the understanding of students in these crucial areas of study.
