Biography

Wim Huisman is a full professor of criminology and the head of the VU School of Criminology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He serves as the co-editor chief of the journal Crime, Law & Social Change and has been a board member of the European Working Group on Organizational Crime (EUROC) from 2010 to 2025. Huisman's research primarily focuses on white-collar crime, corporate crime, and organized crime, with particular attention to criminal careers of white-collar offenders, corporate complicity in gross human rights violations, corruption causes, and corporate environmental crime prevention strategies against food fraud. He has held visiting professorships at Griffith University in Brisbane, Northeastern University in Boston, USA, and Mekelle University in Ethiopia. His extensive contributions to the field include various lectures, editorial work, and active memberships in criminological societies. He has received recognition for his work, including the ASC Division White-Collar Corporate Crime Outstanding Book Chapter Award in November 2023.
