Biography

Winnie Ye is a Full Professor in the Department of Electronics at Carleton University, specializing in sustainable energy technologies such as photovoltaics and environmental sensing. She is recognized for her research in silicon photonics applications in telecommunications, data communication, biophotonics, and renewable energy. Dr. Ye earned her B.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University and holds M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto and Carleton University, respectively. She was an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. Since joining Carleton in 2009, she has received numerous awards including the 2021 IEEE MGA Leadership Award and the 2018 Ontario Professional Engineers' Engineering Medal for Research and Development. Dr. Ye has actively contributed to the academic community as Chair of IEEE Canada Women in Engineering and Chair of Optica’s Photonics Opto-Electronics Technical Division. She became a teaching fellow at Carleton University in 2019, awarded the Provost’s Fellowship Teaching Award for her excellence in teaching and mentorship.
