Biography

Winson Y. Cheung, MD, MPH, FRCPC is a medical oncologist and a nationally and internationally recognized data scientist and health outcomes researcher. He specializes in real-world evidence generation by leveraging big data, large registries, and administrative databases. Currently, he is a Full Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, where he serves as the Director of the Oncology Outcomes (O2) Research Program. He earned his medical degree from the University of British Columbia and completed his medical oncology subspecialty training at the University of Toronto. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University. In 2016, he joined the Calgary Cancer Centre after spending six years of his career at the University of British Columbia, where he worked at BC Cancer in Vancouver. His clinical expertise is focused on the management of gastrointestinal malignancies, while his research portfolio spans the entire spectrum of cancer prevention and survivorship across various tumor types. He has received numerous accolades, including the National Cancer Institute of Canada Dorothy Lamont Award and the Novartis Oncology Young Canadian Investigator Mentor Award, among others. He has secured over 25 million dollars in grant funding and has published more than 350 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
