Biography

Professor Wolfgang Wall conducts research in the field of computational mechanics, focusing on single field problems such as structural fluid mechanics and complex coupled multi-field multi-scale problems. His research expertise encompasses the entire cycle of novel approaches in modeling, the development of powerful numerical methods, and the implementation of efficient software for application-oriented simulations on supercomputers. The methodological spectrum of his work extends to uncertainty quantification, machine learning, and inverse problems, with applications in engineering and applied sciences, particularly in the fields of biophysics and biomedicine. Originally from Salzburg, Austria, Wall studied at the University of Innsbruck and completed a research stay at Princeton University before earning his PhD from the University of Stuttgart. In 2003, he was appointed as the head of the newly created Institute for Computational Mechanics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Additionally, he is the founding director of the Munich School of Engineering and currently serves as Rector of the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM) in Udine, Italy.
