Biography

Wolfgang Walz is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, where he joined the Department of Psychiatry in 2009 and served for 11 years. Prior to that, he held a faculty position in the University from 1983 in the Pharmacology and Physiology departments. Walz was the Head of the Physiology Department from 1999 to 2008 and is also recognized as an Associate Member of the Physiology department. His research has significantly focused on the role of brain satellite cells, including astrocytes and microglia, in health and disease. During his time in the Department of Psychiatry, he developed a rat model of lacunar infarction, contributing to the understanding of small vessel strokes. He has published a textbook titled 'Integrative Physiology Proteomics in the Post-Genomics Age' and continues to serve as the Series Editor for the Neuromethods Book Series published by Springer Nature. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board of Neurochemical Research. Walz has held prestigious roles including MRC Scholar and MRC Scientist during 1991-1992 and served as a Humboldt Visiting Professor at the University of Heidelberg.
