Biography

Wolfram Volk is a leading researcher in the fields of metal forming and casting. His work focuses on the transformation of semi-finished products into finished components, with a particular emphasis on sheet forming technology. Over the years, he has contributed significantly to the development of simulation methods in metal forming, including advancements in continuous casting and composite casting techniques using light metals and copper-based alloys. After completing his studies in physics at Darmstadt University of Technology in 1994, he obtained his doctorate in 1999 under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Ehlers at the University of Stuttgart’s Institute of Mechanics. Prior to his academic appointments, Volk worked at BMW AG in Munich, where he held various positions in the department of forming technology, concentrating on forming simulation and process planning. Since April 1, 2011, he has held the Chair of Metal Forming and Casting at the Technical University of Munich, where he continues to advance the frontiers of research in metal forming technologies.
