Biography

Won-jong Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997, after completing his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University in 1991 and 1989, respectively. His research focuses on precision mechatronics, including synthesis control instrumentation, actuators, power electronics, sensors, and signal processing, as well as precision system design. He has a strong emphasis on nanoscale engineering technology, particularly in nanopositioning control and cyber-physical systems. Additionally, he works on developing novel high-performance and high-efficiency actuators and sensors, smart materials, and biomimetic robots. Professor Kim is also involved in designing and implementing real-time control systems and signal processing algorithms for various applications, including semiconductor manufacturing and aerospace. His expertise extends to magnetic levitation system design and precision positioning for energy-storage applications.
