Wondwossen Firew is a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Addis Ababa and a Master of Laws (LLM) specializing in Constitutional and Public Laws from Addis Ababa. Before becoming a Mastercard Foundation Fellow and joining Queen’s University Faculty of Law in 2019, he held the position of Assistant Professor at the School of Law of the University of Gondar for ten years, where he also served as Dean. In his administrative role as Director of the Legal Services Directorate, he was responsible for leading and coordinating all legal affairs for the University, and served as the legal advisor to the President of the University. Wondwossen has served as an associate editor and Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Ethiopian Legal Studies (IJELS), published under the auspices of the School of Law of the University of Gondar, and has acted as an external evaluator for several journals. His areas of specialization include Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Jurisprudence, Legal Research, and Medical Law. In addition to teaching and advising students in these areas, Wondwossen has published journal articles, co-authored a teaching textbook, and is currently working on a dissertation focused on crafting the proper 'right to mental health' within the context of the Ethiopian Constitutional Human Rights regime.
