Biography

WonSook Lee is a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa, where she specializes in computer vision, computer graphics, and machine learning with an emphasis on medical imaging, natural scene understanding, and virtual human modeling. She holds a BSc and MSc in Mathematics from Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea, and spent one semester at Birmingham University in the UK. She transitioned to Computer Science and dedicated several years at the Institute of Systems Science at the National University of Singapore. As part of her research career, she collaborated with the CieMed group on medical imaging research with Johns Hopkins University. She earned her PhD at MIRALab, University of Geneva, focusing her research on Computer Graphics, specifically Virtual Human Modeling for Animation. Over the years, she has gained expertise in computer modeling, animation, face recognition, haptics, and applications in medical imaging. Throughout her tenure at the University of Ottawa, she has secured multiple research grants as a Principal Investigator, including NSERC DISCOVERY, NSERC RTI, CFI, ORF, ORNEC, CIHR/NSERC CHRP, and SME4SME, and has played key roles in various national and international research initiatives. Before her academic career in Canada, she worked in industries, including Korea Telecom and Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology in South Korea as well as Eyematic Interfaces, Inc in the USA.
