Dr. Woo Kyoung Ahn

Biography

Woo-kyoung Ahn is the John Hay Whitney Professor in the Department of Psychology at Yale University. Her primary research focuses on higher-level reasoning processes, including how people learn to represent concepts, causal relations, and how causal explanations shape cognitive processes. She examines the basic cognitive mechanisms that underlie causal learning and explores applied issues, such as the impact of expert clinicians’ causal explanations on diagnoses and how knowledge of one's genetic predisposition can influence expectations of symptoms. Ahn's work integrates theoretical and practical perspectives, contributing to our understanding of cognitive processes in diverse contexts. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Illinois in 1990.
