Dr. Wouter Stam

Biography

Wouter Stam is a Full Professor in Entrepreneurship at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's School of Business and Economics. He holds a Master's degree in International Business Studies, with a specialization in finance from Maastricht University, and earned his PhD with cum laude distinction at VU Amsterdam, focusing on the impact of social capital on the performance of entrepreneurial firms. Professor Stam has had significant academic roles, including serving as a faculty member at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and as a visiting scholar at institutions such as the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and RSM Erasmus University. His research primarily deals with the management challenges associated with the creation and growth of entrepreneurial ventures, particularly the strategic dilemmas innovative entrepreneurs face in emerging industries. He actively leads research projects analyzing how social capital and inequality influence entrepreneurial activity and performance. Professor Stam has received numerous accolades for his teaching and research, and his work has been published in top-tier academic journals. He is also an editor for 'Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice'. Currently, he teaches various courses related to new venture creation and corporate entrepreneurship at both undergraduate and master's levels, as well as part-time PhD programs.
