Dr. Wouter Van Atteveldt

Biography

Wouter van Atteveldt is a full professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Communication Science. He has received a joint Ph.D. in these fields and has been recognized as a leading computational communication scientist. His research focuses on the integration of computational techniques with traditional panel survey methods to analyze the effects of individual media diets, which has become increasingly relevant in the context of democratic processes. He is co-director of the Societal Analytics Lab and has contributed significantly to the academic community, including co-founding the Computational Methods division of the International Communication Association and serving as editor-in-chief for the open-access journal, Computational Communication Research. Wouter's methodological research agenda seeks to introduce and validate AI methods in communication science, particularly focusing on the advancements in deep learning and its application in social sciences.
