Biography

Wouter van der Wijngaart received his M.Sc. degree in Electrotechnical Engineering and a degree from the Philosophic Academy in Mathematics Education from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 1996. He earned his Ph.D. in microsystem technology from KTH in 2002, and he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and Full Professor in 2010. He has published over 160 internationally peer-reviewed journal and conference papers with more than 5900 citations, resulting in an h-index of 39 according to Google Scholar. He serves as a Technical Programme Chair for the IEEE TRANSDUCERS conference in 2027 and has held positions such as Social Events Chair for the MicroTAS 2020 online conference and General Conference Chair for the IEEE Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) 2015 conference. Between 2011 and 2016, he was on the editorial board of the Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering. Wouter is a co-founder of seven spin-off companies, including Easypark, Mercene Labs, UTI-lizer, and Lucky Loop Medical. His research interests primarily focus on microfluidic lab-on-a-chip systems, micro/nanostructured soft matter, and biomedical microdevices.
