Biography

Xavier Fernando is a Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He directs the TMU Intelligent Communication Computing Laboratory, which has secured over $3 million in research funding since 2008. His expertise is demonstrated through the co-authorship of approximately 200 research articles and books, one of which has been translated into Mandarin. Fernando has held notable positions within the IEEE Communications Society, including serving as a Distinguished Lecturer and member of the Education Board Working Group on Wireless Communications. He has also chaired and organized major conferences, including the IEEE International Humanitarian Technology Conference and the Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering. His academic contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Engineering Excellence Award from Professional Engineers Ontario and the IEEE Toronto Section Sustained Leadership Appreciation Award. He is committed to advancing knowledge in his field through both his research and involvement in educational leadership.
