Biography

Xi-Long Zheng is a tenured professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and a member of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta. He earned his M.D. and M.Sc. degrees from Hunan Medical University, China, in 1986 and 1989, respectively, and completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacology at the University of Calgary in 1997. Dr. Zheng conducted postdoctoral training at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and returned to the University of Calgary for a faculty position. He has received numerous awards, including the Alberta Innovates ‒ Health Solutions Senior Scholar Award and the New Investigator Award from the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. His research focuses on the mechanisms of vascular smooth muscle cell differentiation and proliferation, particularly how smooth muscle dedifferentiation contributes to vascular diseases. Dr. Zheng has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in high-ranking journals, including PNAS and Hypertension.
