Dr. Xia Yang is a Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology and the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She serves as Vice Chair for both the Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology Interdepartmental Ph.D. Program and the Computational Systems Biology Interdepartmental Undergraduate Program. Dr. Yang received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Shandong Medical University in China and her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics from Georgia State University. Following her doctorate, she completed postdoctoral training in Systems Genetics at UCLA under Dr. Jake Lusis. Before returning to UCLA as a faculty member, she held positions as a Senior Research Scientist at Rosetta Inpharmatics/Merck & Co. and as Director of Systems Biology at Sage Bionetworks. Her research focuses on leveraging big data-driven systems biology and computational approaches to understand multitissue multiomics biological networks underlying a wide range of complex diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's disease, and traumatic brain injury, as well as physiological traits such as drug response and aging. Dr. Yang's goal is to elucidate the complex molecular, intercellular, and intertissue processes involved in pathophysiology to guide the development of new therapeutics.
