Biography

Xiangying Huo holds a Ph.D. in Language, Culture, and Teaching from York University. She serves as an Assistant Professor in the Teaching Stream, specializing in writing and English language learning. Dr. Huo has a wealth of teaching experience at the university level, with roles spanning several institutions, including York University and the Ontario College of Art and Design, as well as various campuses of the University of Toronto. Her research interests are diverse, encompassing writing studies, applied linguistics, and anti-racism education. She is particularly focused on ESL/EFL policy pedagogy and the internationalization of higher education. Dr. Huo has contributed significantly to the field through her editorial work, including being the editor-in-chief of 'Interrogating Race and Racism in Postsecondary Language Classrooms' published by IGI Global in 2024. Her book 'Higher Education Internationalization and English Language Instruction: Intersectionality, Race, and Language in Canadian Universities' was published by Springer in 2020 and has been nominated for the 2021 IWCA Outstanding Book Award. She is also a recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award and the Dean’s Merit Award at UTSC.
