Biography

Xianxin Hua, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Cancer Biology Department at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. His research expertise spans the investigation of the molecular mechanisms underpinning the tumor suppressor Menin and its role in epigenetic regulation of gene transcription. He has focused on areas such as neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), colorectal cancer (CRC), and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Hua's efforts include the identification of immunologically targetable tumor-associated antigens and the development of novel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-expressing T cells aimed to improve immunotherapy for these diseases. His lab utilizes a diverse array of methodologies, including protein engineering, synthetic biology, gene editing, and bioinformatics, to investigate the biological roles of Menin. Hua has developed the Sequential Tumor-selected Antibody antigen-Retrieval (STAR) platform to isolate NET and AML-selective nanobodies, and is exploring novel strategies in CAR T cell therapy targeting specific cancers to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. He has published extensively and continues to make significant contributions to the field of cancer biology.
