Biography

Xiao-Ning Xu qualified in Medicine from Capital Medical University in Beijing and obtained a PhD in Clinical Immunology at the Flinders Medical Centre in Australia. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1999. He joined the group of Professor Sir Andrew J. McMichael as an NHMRC research fellow at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford. In his career, Xu has served as Senior Clinical Scientist and project leader at the Medical Research Council's Human Immunology Unit, where he led significant research projects involving immune correlates of protection in emerging infectious diseases such as HIV, SARS, and avian influenza. In 2010, he took on the role of Head of Novartis Vaccines Research in China and later became Chair Professor of Human Immunology at Imperial College London. His work focuses on advancing the understanding of immune responses to infectious diseases.
