Biography

Xiao Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology from the University of Notre Dame in 2022 after obtaining an M.S. in Applied Statistics in 2020, also from Notre Dame, and a B.S. in Statistics from Renmin University of China in 2017. His research interests focus on developing and applying statistical methods, particularly in causal inference and observational randomized studies. His work includes causal mediation analysis, causal inference machine learning methods, longitudinal clustered data analyses, study design, sensitivity analysis methods, and statistical power analysis. Liu's research substantively examines the application of these methods in areas such as education, health, developmental disabilities, mental health, and intervention programs for children and adolescents. He has published several articles in reputable journals, discussing various aspects of causal inference and mediation effects using advanced statistical techniques. Liu has been recognized with the Outstanding Quantitative Dissertation Award from the American Educational Research Association, Division D, in 2023.
