Biography

Xiao Yang is a PhD student in Design History at the School of Human Ecology, University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her current research examines children’s material culture and design flows between China and America during the 19th and 20th centuries. Yang's broader research interests encompass design exchange and how everyday life helps shape the ways in which objects and people co-construct lived experiences. Her museum practice began with her work in exhibition and public education at the China Design Museum and Crafts Museum at the China Academy of Art, where she developed a deep appreciation for how objects communicate cultural narratives.
