Dr. Xiaoai Zhao

Biography

Xiaoai Zhao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She completed her medical training in Nanjing, China, before moving to the United States. She joined John Sedivy's lab at Brown University for her graduate studies, where she focused on molecular pathways of organismal aging using mouse models of longevity. Her postdoctoral training was at Stanford University under the guidance of Anne Brunet, where she investigated lipidomic changes and their functional consequences in neural stem cell aging. Dr. Zhao's research lab at Yale centers on the functional investigation of lipid biology in aging and age-related diseases, emphasizing the role of complex lipids in regulating cellular processes associated with aging. Her research aims to characterize organelle-specific lipidomic changes and their impact on functional decline in aging and age-related pathology. Additionally, she is focused on developing new technologies for lipid biology research, leveraging advancements in mass spectrometry to address biological questions related to systemic health and aging.
