Biography

Professor Pan’s lab focuses on the physics, algorithms, and engineering that underlie tomographic imaging for biomedical clinical applications. His research includes advanced theories and algorithms for conventional spectral computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), as well as tomosynthesis techniques, particularly digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and digital lung tomosynthesis (DLT). Supported by federal and state funding from agencies like the NIH and DOD, his lab collaborates extensively with leading researchers in the field. They have investigated innovative imaging techniques including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electron-paramagnetic resonance imaging (EPRI), phase-contrast CT, and photo-acoustic tomography (PAT). In recent years, they have developed programs to translate theoretical concepts into practical biomedical applications, focusing on creating advanced hardware systems and workflows that enhance imaging algorithms for clinical significance. Professor Pan is a Fellow of several distinguished organizations including the AAPM, AIMBE, IAMBE, IEEE, OSA, and SPIE.
