Biography

Xiaofan Jin is an Assistant Professor in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. He is a full member of the Calvin, Phoebe Joan Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases. Dr. Jin's research primarily focuses on the areas of Synthetic Biology, Computational Biology, and Microbiome studies. He completed his Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science with a specialization in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2012. He then obtained a Master of Science in Bioengineering from Stanford University in 2014, followed by a Ph.D. in Bioengineering also from Stanford University in 2018. He is currently engaged in postdoctoral work in Bioinformatics at Gladstone Institutes, which will conclude in 2024. Dr. Jin's work involves innovative approaches to understanding biological systems through computational methods and synthetic biology techniques, aiming to advance the field of engineering in health and disease. His academic discourse includes courses that bridge the gap between biology and engineering, enriching student learning and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
