Biography

Xiaohao Cai is a lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Southampton, specializing in applied mathematics, statistics, and computer science. He received his PhD degree in mathematics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012. Following this, he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Mathematics at Technische Universität Kaiserslautern in Germany. He has held prestigious fellowships including the Wellcome Trust Research Fellow and Isaac Newton Trust Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, working with the Department of Plant Sciences and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Cai’s research interests encompass a broad array of topics, focusing on image, signal, and data processing, computer vision, and machine learning optimization. He has published notably on image segmentation, classification, pattern recognition, image reconstruction, medical imaging, and big-data analysis. His current role involves teaching various courses on computer vision and machine learning. Additionally, he has led research projects applying machine learning to aggregated X-ray computed tomographic data.
