Biography

Xiaoping Du is a professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He has held previous academic positions including Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, and Curator’s Distinguished Professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Du earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago in April 2002. His research interests focus on design optimization, probabilistic statistical methods, reliability-based robust design, uncertainty quantification, and machine learning. Du has received multiple awards for his teaching excellence, including the Trustees' Teaching Award from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 2023, and various awards for outstanding teaching from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He is actively involved in the academic community, contributing as an associate editor for renowned journals in his field and has been recognized for his impactful research and contributions to engineering education.
