Xiaorong Zhou graduated from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Hunan University, China, in 1983. He obtained his MSc in materials science engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China, in 1986, and was appointed as a research engineer at the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials. He received his PhD in corrosion science engineering from UMIST in 1994. Subsequently, he joined the Corrosion Protection Centre of UMIST in 1994, initially as a Research Fellow and later progressing through the ranks to Professor. His research primarily focuses on corrosion control of light alloys and novel surface engineering for protection functionality. He has employed innovative electron microscopy techniques that enable a detailed understanding of the relationships between alloy fabrication processes and microstructure prediction of performance. His research has been recognized with the Jim Kape Memorial Medal from the Institute of Metal Finishing in 2001.
Includes MSc in Advanced Electrical Power Systems and MSc in Communications and Signal Processing.
