Biography

Xiaosong Li earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1999 and his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from Wayne State University in 2003. He completed post-doctoral training at Yale University before joining the University of Washington as an Assistant Professor in the fall of 2005. Li was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011 and to Full Professor in 2015. He currently holds the Larry R. Dalton Endowed Chair and serves as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts & Sciences. Additionally, he is a Lab Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. His research focuses on developing and applying time-dependent relativistic and non-relativistic electronic structure theories to study excited state chemical processes that underpin energy conversion, photocatalysis, and ultrafast spectroscopies. Li has received several awards, including the Sloan Research Fellowship and the NSF CAREER Award. He was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2024.
