Biography

Dr. Xiaotao Jiang is a lecturer at the University of New South Wales in the School of Clinical Medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Bioinformatics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Water Environmental Microbiology. Dr. Jiang's research interests include microbiome health diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and virome studies. He leads the Antimicrobial Resistance Microbiome Research Centre and is a chief investigator on several significant grants, including a NHMRC Synergy grant focused on multi-omics analysis of the gut-lung axis. He also oversees the Healthy Optimal Australian Microbiome Project, which aims to define the multi-omics characteristics of a healthy microbiome. Dr. Jiang has developed novel systems for the automatic detection of fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) super donors and collaborates with teams addressing a range of microbiome-related health issues including obesity, dementia, liver cancer, and schizophrenia. His academic background includes completing a PhD at the University of Hong Kong, where he applied large-scale metagenomics sequencing to understand microbial ecology. Additionally, he has extensive experience supervising students in the field of microbiome research.
