Dr. Xiaowu Dai

Biography

Xiaowu Dai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Department of Biostatistics at the University of California, Los Angeles, having joined in 2022. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley from 2019 to 2022, where he was advised by Professor Michael Jordan. Dai earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 under the supervision of Professor Grace Wahba. He also holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2014. His research integrates statistical machine learning methods with significant societal impacts in economics and biomedical sciences. Notably, his work focuses on the development of innovative statistical methods that incorporate game theory and high-dimensional statistical techniques to address pressing questions in various fields such as Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, he is interested in learning dynamical systems and uncertainty quantification in decision-making processes.
