Biography

Xiaxia Yang joined the Lau China Institute as a Postdoctoral Research Associate focusing on Chinese Migration in 2021. She obtained her PhD in Geography from the University of Washington. Her dissertation explored the exploitative age-selective processes within internal migration in China during the reform era, specifically how working-age adults are welcomed to move while children and elderly dependents are largely excluded. Her current research investigates the disadvantages faced by migrants in China, which are induced by selective migration processes related to various topics.
