Dr. Xinhui Wu’s research program focuses on regenerative medicine for chronic pulmonary diseases, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her work aims to characterize disrupted lung development in BPD and to understand molecular mechanisms affecting health, disease, injury, which may lead to novel drug targets. Dr. Wu utilizes a combination of multi-omics techniques to study lung repair mechanisms, particularly in response to therapies for BPD. Her long-term goal is to discover novel therapeutic strategies to mitigate lung dysfunction. Dr. Wu holds a PhD in molecular pharmacology from the University of Groningen, where her research centered on regenerative pharmacology for COPD, while developing 3D models and exploring the effects of cigarette smoke and diesel exhaust on lung repair. She also completed postdoctoral training at both the University of Groningen and Aston University, supported by the Lung Foundation Netherlands. Dr. Wu is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the University of Manitoba and a principal investigator at the Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba.
