Xinyi Yan is a Research Assistant at the School of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University, focusing on cognitive science. Her research primarily investigates inner speech, its physiological implications, and its relationship with mental health. Yan is currently involved in a substantial survey aimed at exploring how inner speech, including its frequency and forms, interacts with demographic and psychological characteristics, such as attention and depression. Her master's thesis concentrated on the effects of inner speech on stress responses, particularly examining heart rate and perceived stress levels. Additionally, she has participated in data collection efforts examining the physiology of inner speech and contributed to a journal article discussing the emotional aspects of inner speech and its potential to elevate heart rate. Yan's work not only contributes to the understanding of cognitive processes but also has implications for mental health research, particularly regarding the interplay between internal dialogue and emotional well-being.
