Dr. Xu Zhou

Biography

Xu Zhou is a Research Associate at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London, specializing in AI-based decentralized mechanism design for analytics in electricity local flexibility markets, market integration, and market participation strategies. Prior to joining Imperial, Xu was a Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London, where he worked on the development and implementation of decomposition methods for complex systems' optimization and uncertainty management in hydrogen supply infrastructure planning, focusing on heat decarbonization towards net zero. Xu was selected as a finalist for the prestigious STEM BRITAIN 2025 Poster Exhibition, where he presented his net-zero research to stakeholders and MPs at the Houses of Parliament. He obtained his PhD in Control Science and Engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology, China, in September 2022. In addition, Xu held a visiting position in the Control Group at the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford from October 2021 to September 2022. His research interests are at the intersection of distributed optimization, robust and stochastic optimization, optimal control, game theory, and data-driven methodologies, with applications in multi-energy systems and energy markets.
